2008-2009 Welcome to Pre-K! Dear Parents, I am pleased to have your child in my class. The first day of school is Monday, August 18, 2008. As you may already know the Pre-K Class is designed to present as many learning opportunities to your child as possible. Arrival time is 7:30 a.m. in the gym. Please let your child out in front of the school so he/she can learn how to walk in the gym and sit down. There is adult supervision in the gym at all times. I will pick the children up in the gym @ 8:00a.m. everyday. We will then all walk over to the classroom together. Dismissal for bus students will be @ 2:55 p.m. and dismissal for parent pick –up will be right after the buses leave. Parent pick-ups must get in line in front of the school. You can not park in front of the Pre-K building and pick-up your child. A teacher or paraprofessional will walk the children over to the bus ramp. Parents who pick up their children early or bring them in late must sign them in/out in the front office. If your child is not at school by 8:15 a.m. they are tardy. Please go to the front office first and get a tardy slip before coming to the classroom. Pre-K is an active and fun place to learn. We will be learning our colors, shapes, counting numbers, recognize numbers, recognize the letters A-Z, matching, sorting, recognize big, small, front, back, on top of, under, side, front of, over, in, out, short/tall, big/little, small/large, short/long, can tell my age /birthday, recognize first last name, write first last name, and cutting with scissors. We will also begin a new program called SRA Language for Learning. This program helps build the speaking and thinking skills that are needed for children to do well in school. Your child will learn to listen carefully, say things well, and follow directions. Children will get to go outside and play outdoors everyday, weather permitting. Therefore, sturdy comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty are necessary. Make sure your child’s clothes are easy to pull up and down for bathroom needs. I have already purchased the school supplies for each child, which is a school box, two packs of crayons, scissors, glue sticks, pencils, eraser, band aids, two boxes of tissue, Jerm X hand sanitizer, and baby wipes for wiping dirty faces. . Which come to a total of $20.00. Please pay Mrs. Dawn Combass for your child’s school supplies. Your child will also need a standard size book bag (not a little tiny book bag), beach towel for rest time (no plastics mats) and a change of clothes in case your child has a wetting accident. The change of clothes can stay inside the bookbag at all times, please write your child’s name on all items with a permanent marker. Again, I am looking forward to working with both you and your child in the coming year. If at any time, you have a question concerning your child, please send a note or call 938-1400 to schedule a conference. Our school has a new web site, it is www.hamiltonfl.com/nhe. Sincerely, Dawn Combass
