CHE Happenings…

Kindergarten

In Ms. Sharon Williams’ class, our kindergarteners are excited about SUMS.  We are collecting and graphing data.  All of our students enjoy journal writing. In Reading students are learning sight words, nouns, and writing stories (picture stories). The Weekly Readers are filled with an array of information. We discussed workers and the tools they use.

Mrs. Locke's class is working hard with a new math program...SUMS math. We have a question of the day everyday which we put in a graph form. We also like to talk about more, less, and equal to when we are graphing.  Writing is also happening everyday in our class. We are writing in our journals during math, and science.  Recently in science we
learned about the 5 senses of our body.  In reading we are finishing up learning our letters and their sounds. We will soon be reading!

In Mrs. Vickie Williams' class, we have implemented SUMS (Math) the first year which involves lots of hands on experiences for math . We have been using graphic organizers such as Venn Diagrams, T-Charts, and KWL Charts to accelerate the learning process in math, reading and science.  Letters, sounds, number recognition, shapes, counting, writing and high frequency/sight words continues to be a top kindergarten priority.

Sixth Grade

Central Hamilton Elementary is happy to announce our new “Business Partner” is Dairy Queen.  Dairy Queen has a long standing tradition of partnering with schools and we are so happy they have chosen Central as their partner.

Tuesday Night is Kids’ Night at Dairy Queen.  Every Tuesday night they are giving away a free kid’s meal with an adult combo purchase.  A kid’s meal includes the following entrees:  hamburger/cheeseburger, chicken strips, or grilled cheese sandwich and also included are a choice of French fries or applesauce.  And as always a kid’s meal comes with a delicious frozen treat.  Students fill out a slip listing their grade and teacher each Tuesday that they eat at Dairy Queen.

The class with the most participation for the month receives a free Chillabration Cake!  Mrs. Pulliam’s 6th grade class was the winner last week.  They enjoyed a cake and dilly bars!

Cafeteria

Jasper, Florida, October 15, 2009Hamilton County School District is hosting “All-Star School Lunch,” a NBA-inspired campaign to help students learn the importance of eating healthy school lunches and staying active.  The campaign culminates during National School Lunch Week, October 12-16, 2009

We would like to thank the Mayor of Jasper, Mrs. Ann Lessman for participating in our School Lunch Week here at Central Hamilton Elementary!

SAC & PTO Meeting

Getting Involved at CHE!

Parents, community members, teachers, and students gathered on Tuesday evening during the SAC/PTO meeting held at Central Hamilton Elementary. The meeting opened with Mrs. Betty Ann Sumner, Principal discussing the newly formed Parent, Student, Teacher Compact, and issues related to Title I.

The group was also enlightened during a presentation by Mrs. Doretha Jackson of the Parental Information and Resource Centers (PIRCs). The purpose of the presentation was to help implement effective parental involvement policies, programs, and activities that will impact children’s academic achievement. Mrs. Jackson will be returning to conduct more parent workshops in addition to Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Training.

The goal of Central Hamilton Elementary and the Parental Involvement Committee is to strengthen the partnerships among parents, teachers, principals, administrators, and other school personnel in order to meet the academic and social needs of the children we serve. The Parental Involvement Committee members are Kathy Griffin,( Chairperson), Janell Warfel, Charles Claridy,( Parent Liaison), Linda Ledyard, and Norman McCall.

The meeting was very productive and enjoyed by all attendants. Refreshments were provided by the Mrs. Phyllis Simmons and the cafeteria staff as well as other staff members.  Parents and members from the community voiced their opinions and concerns. Those concerns were charted and recorded, and will assist in forming policies for parental involvement and future professional development activities.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday November 10, 2009 @ 4:30 PM. We ask that all members of the community come out and support Central and all of the positive things that are being implemented to raise the academic achievement of students.
